If you’ve been burned by Dallas-Fort Worth’s competitive housing market this past year, maybe you’ve chosen to stick it out in a rental apartment — if you can afford it. Renting an apartment in the Metroplex became more challenging and more expensive in 2021, according to numbers from ApartmentData.com. The average rent reached $1,385 per month after hovering below $1,200 per month throughout 2020. Rental rates increased 21.6%, trailing only Austin’s 30% among the state’s four largest metro areas.
In the Fort Worth area, rents are highest downtown and near TCU ($1,517 per month) and in Grapevine, Roanoke and Keller ($1,572). The area’s occupancy rate continues to inch up, reaching 93.4% at the end of 2021 after fluctuating between 90% and 91% throughout 2020.
That’s higher than the occupancy rates in Houston, Austin and San Antonio.
